EARLY ADVANCED PIANO
Composed in 1928, Amy Beach’s Three Pieces, Op. 128 mark a stylistic shift from the lush Romanticism of her earlier works. With transparent textures and more modern harmonic language, these pieces reflect a refined, forward-looking voice. Despite their subtlety, Beach cherished them deeply — performing the set twice at the White House, in 1934 and 1936.
Each title evokes a delicate natural image:
I. Scherzino (A Peterborough Chipmunk) – playful and quick.
II. Young Birches – graceful and contemplative.
III. A Hummingbird – swift and shimmering.
This Early Advanced collection includes Practice & Performance suggestions by Dr. Evan Mitchell, offering insight into touch, dynamics, rhythm, pedaling, and expression. His commentary supports technical growth while encouraging personal interpretation.
